Day 62

Date: July 15, 2011
Time: 11:23pm (CST)
Playing on iTunes: "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO

Location: Minneapolis, MN Day 4

Rain all day!! All day! It was a slow start to the day with the pit since we're in a hold until we figure out how the weather is going to play out. We woke up at 7a and got rehearsal started around 9:30a. The schedule throughout the day changed about 3 times. By the time it was finally figure out, it was time for ensemble before our community performance.
Since the pit was inside all day, we had to somehow cram into the small band room. Granted it was extremely nice, it wasn't the best listening environment since we're used to playing really loud music outside. There was a little confusion on how we were going to go throughout the day since we couldn't do everything we needed to inside. This ended up in a slow pace the whole day.
The cart ready to move in the rain.
Today, the pit got a new warmup tune for our pre-show parking lot warm ups. It was arranged for pit by Michael Zellers, one of the pit techs. He arranged "Who Says" by John Mayer . Although we didn't get to learn it, he passed out the music and the pit got very excited about the chart because we have "I Gotta Feelin'" for our first warmup and it's nice to get some new music. We all can't wait to learn this and play it for a crowd! If you come see the pit warmup before a show, you'll get to hear us play this along with small sections from the show!

Tonight was a community performance for Chaska community in Minnesota. There were a lot of people who showed up early since our schedule changed so much. But most of them stayed the whole two hours while we rehearsed before our performance. It was great to see so many people so interested to see us rehearse. We were going to originally do the performance in full uniform, but do to weather we just stayed in our street clothes while the rest of the corps wore shakos. The crowd, now, was able to at least distinguish angels vs. demons. Everyone in the audience loved the show. Especially our new ending. Since the big change of the company front, some people have been skeptical about how the crowd would react, but they seem to love it which is great! Now we're ready for the HUGE show tomorrow in Minneapolis, MN where we will meet the rest of the drum corps in the country. Everyone is getting together for the first big regional of the summer.

Here's the list of drum corps tomorrow (in no particular order):

CPit 2011 Spotlight
Rebecca Conover is 20-year old marimba player in the Cadets that resides in Riverside California. Prior to auditioning for the Cadets, she was a part of Pacific Crest Drum and Bugle Corps from 2008 - 2010. Her main activities are playing marimba and getting her statistics degree from University of California at Riverside. This summer, she is most looking forward to performing in large stadiums with all the rest of the big name drum corps. Although she is an avid musician, she does not want to pursue music as a career. Look out for her on the field. She's got a great performance energy that is a force to be reckoned with (as you can tell from the picture above).

Thought of the Day: "Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God." - James 1: 19-20

  1. Great thought of the day. Also, I remember watching Rebecca while the pit was warming up in the lot for the Salt Lake show. She's a stand out for sure. She has great facility and ability to play with excellent technique at pp and ff volumes. Great energy. She doesn't play from her hands, she plays from within, and it's very evident. That's the way to do it! Great playing from the whole pit this year! Ian has given you a fantastic book. Love the pit feature and all of the contrasts throughout the show. Keep up the great work! Thanks for doing this blog.

P.S. The BMX running is serious cool. Wish we would've thought of that when I marched. You should talk the whole staff (including Hop) into doing that and get it on video. Hilarious!
