So this blog is going to be a little different. This is going to be more of a reflective entry than a summary of the day.
This morning, Hop gave us a talk about being who you want to be and doing anything you want to do. If you want to be the principle trumpet for the Chicago Symphony, you can be. As long as you try your hardest and never give up. Something I’ve learned is that greatness is only a product of hard work...but consistent hard work. You can’t expect to practice 10 hours a day, 3 days a week and expect to get better. You need to do it everyday. That’s one big concept that being in this drum corps has taught me. Pushing yourself EVERYday to get better. If you let one day go, you’re one day behind. That’s one day that you can not make up.
This doesn’t just apply to music, this applies to anything. If you’re trying to get in shape, you need to exercise and eat right everyday. If you want to get good at golfing, you need to do it everyday. Granted some days you might not be able to due to weather, but you can find other things that can help you with golfing (maybe technique wise). Lastly, if you have no special talent or athletic ability, use this concept for your personality or the way you act. We all aren’t perfect and will never be, but you can do your best to be the best friend, mother, father, sister, brother, etc that you can be. Whatever that means you have to do, do it everyday and you will be the best at what you do. These are just a few examples. Apply this concept to anything in your life.
I know that when I come out at the end of this season, I will be a different person and have a different outlook on life. I cannot say right now how I will be then because it’s only June 16, but I know that I will be a completely different person and have the drive to get better as a musician and a person every day. Live a life striving to get better every day no matter what it is. You will feel better at the end of the day knowing you got better.
One more day in Martin, TN!!
Thought of the Day: "Ask yourself, did I get better today?"
If I were to answer your "Thought of the Day" question, I would have to say YES... I did get better today, because I read your wonderful reflection... Thanks Bobby!
