Day 85

Date: August 8, 2011
Time: 1:10am(EST)

Location: East Rutherford, NJ Day 2
Great morning this morning. First off, we got a little extra sleep at the school, then when we got to the Meadowlands someone told me that lunch was later so we needed to eat a lot of breakfast (can’t go wrong with that), and then the Vic Firth guys came and videotaped us. Although when we got to the stadium it was a little congested getting in because they had to check our bags and give us wrist bands to allow us to go in and out of the stadium throughout the day. The security there was pretty tight even for being a drum corps that is rehearsing there all day.
The video session was awesome. The entire pit wore their CPit shirts to ensure that we all had the same attire on because we always gotta look good. The actual video shoot was not as nerve racking as our instructors had said it may be. They told us we needed to make sure we were relaxed and focused because years past kids have gotten nervous from the videographers being right in their face. For this pit, it seemed just like a regular warm up day for us. We were all relaxed, focused, full performance energy, and ready to show Vic Firth what we got. Our videos should be on www.vicfirth.com or on the VicFirth “Marching Percussion” podcast on iTunes in the beginning to mid September if you’d like to check it out.

After our chicken nugget lunch (another one of my favorites), we had another sort of clinic to do during ensemble. It was similar to the one we did it Texas, there was just less time for the kids to check out what was going on.
So with only less than than a week left, we got to put our energy and focus into high gear. We’ve had 84 days of pounding our brains to mush with rehearsing 10-12 hours a day, and this is the most important part. This marks the last week of tour. It’s been a great trip and I can’t wait to see what adventures we’ll go on this last week.

The show tonight brought many fans to the stands; 8,000 tickets actually. It also brought two of my best friends some school as well as some other friends from the Amherst area. It was the final TOC show. The Tournament of Champions Finale. This would bring all the TOC shows to an end and crown the Tournament of Champions Champion. There was a brief shower in the middle of the show but it didn’t stop us all from getting out there. After the few rehearsal we had in the Meadowlands, I knew that the corps was going to play well because from how they sounded in rehearsal. The energy was there, and from what the staff was saying they were doing really well. Well...all I can say is the hard work paid off.

DCI Tour of Champions Grand Finale
1) The Cadets - 96.50
2) Blue Devils - 96.35
3) The Cavaliers - 94.75
4) Carolina Crown - 94.00
5) Phantom Regiment - 93.40
6) SC Vanguard - 90.25
7) Bluecoats - 89.25
8) Blue Stars - 86.00

We came out the TOC Champions. Now this doesn’t mean we get a medal or anything, it just means that we got 1st place at this certain show. This was great for us, because everything we’ve been working for as an entire drum corps has finally gone our way. And it feels great!

Now off to Indiana, PA for rehearsal before these last few days of finals week.

Thought of the Day: “No matter what you do, life always turns out. It's how you deal with it is what matters.”
